They ensure me health, life and fire...

Today, I did two outfit shoots. The first was outside in the morning. There was the most amazing lighting. Unfortunately the photographer, my older sister Anna, was not enthusiastic about it at all. She snapped about four awkward, unflattering pictures then ran away. So those were no good. The second was at 10:00 pm and my mom wanted to help me get better outfit pictures. So she took the following. I like posing with the cello, but the artificial light was terrible. So we shall attempt a cello photo shoot another day.

Skirt and shoes: H&M

I've been in kind of a rut latley. Just in everything. I realsized that I haven't done anything creative in a really long time. I haven't sewed, collaged, or even done origami, in forever. It sort of depressed me. I want to spend the rest of my summer crafting and having fun. However, there is the issue of money. I have a job, working for my dad and I'm trying to save up money for spending in college. However, as I've said before, I dropped two sizes since last fall and have absolutley no fall clothes. And I can't seem to afford anything. I'm trying to think of extra ways to earn money and I came up with one, but I don't think my blog is ready for it. Sponsors. First of all I have no clue how to do it. How do people pay? How much do I charge? Also who would want to advertise on my blog? I have no delusions about my blog, I know it's small and not widely read. Also my blog is just a fetus right now (too graphic?). It has just grown fingernails, it isn't even close to being able to be born. Maybe I would be jumping the gun a little bit. I have no clue. I will sleep on it.

What do you guys think?

By the way, sorry I look so evil in these pictures. I've been in a particularly sassy mood lately due to a lack of dairy in my diet. The doctor asked me to refrain from eating anything with dairy in it to isolate it as an allergy. I've been so upset about it becaue all my favorite things contain milk (ice cream, Italian food, chocolate bars).  I can't wait until this is over!

Listening to: Beat (Health, Life & Fire) by Portland Cello Project feat. Thao

P.S. Someone wrote me that the music on the blog was slightly overbearing, and I couldn't agree more (I usually have my computer on mute, so I just discovered this). I changed it so you can just press the play button on the music player and decide for yourself if you want to listen to the playlist. Thank you so much anonymous person. If you have any suggestions (I love constructive criticism) or anything you want to ask me you can just ask me on my formspring or e-mail me at girlinthepaperdress@gmail.com

  1. It's easy to get into ruts, but so hard to drag yourself out of 'em! The best way I've found is through my writing-- it doesn't cost money, and I can sit outside, observe people and just let nature and life inspire me. I know how incredibly sappy or hallmark-y that sounds, but it's when I feel most alive, especially with an amazing playlist-- helps me fill in the white noise in my life.

And I know that you love music. So maybe you can find creativity in your strenth as a musician!

As for the sponsor thing, I'm still working at figuring everything out myself, but if you send me an email at amberrose@modestjune.com, I can forward you what I've been emailing potential sponsors and you could maybe tweak it a bit to fit your blog, or probably just tell me how lame it sounds.

Sorry this comment is so long..

  2. Oh, you play the Cello? How cool! You look really concert ready with your classy outfit. And well, I admire you for taking up non-creative work to save money. It's practical and will pay off. You still have your blog as a little creative outlet, right? :)

I never really realized the music was coming from your blog. Haha! I have so many windows open all at once and was like 'where is that coming from'!

  3. You should def look into sponsorship info, and advertising, via IFB, or doing a google search. You could always open up an etsy shop and sell your crafts?
Andd.. I would be so sassy too, if i couldnt have my diary products!! Good luck!

  5. Oh, you look so great with your beloved cello. I miss mine so much; I used to do photo shoots with him all the time. I also love your lace top, it's so pretty!

  6. Ahhh! As far as blog sponsors go, I have no clue how to go about it and stuff. If you find anything out from Amber Rose, you should let me know. I'm in the exact same boat as you.

My advice: do SOMETHING :) anything is better than nothing and will make you feel so much better. Pawn through fashion magazines and rip out pages of outfits you like and make a collage/book of what inspires you. I did that and it is amazzzzing what I've learned!

  7. Hi Catherine!

I think the cello is a really cool prop, you should def give it another shot! Artificial light is hard to work with, it just isn't as flattering. If you're having trouble finding a willing and dedicated photog (I am too!), maybe get a tripod, then you can do it on your own. Don't get discouraged tho!

As far as sponsorship, I know mostly rates are based on your averages viewers, so it can be hard to make some dough off of it until you have a really solid, big following. (not trying to imply that you don't - this is just what my co-blogger and I have found out upon looking into it).

  8. I agree that the cello is a cool prop to pose with! Your skirt is lovely, the print is adorable :)
I can totally relate to the feeling of being in a creative rut. I haven't written anything decent since my last semester ended, and it's worry some because I'm afraid of losing that part of me. Don't beat yourself up to much, though. <3
I have no clue about how sponsors work, but I think it's worth a shot :)
