Ah Home, Yes I am Home...

As you know from my "about me" (if you didn't read it that's okay) I live in a really small town in which I've lived my whole life. My town is usually quiet, except for the second to last weekend of August when there is a gigantic fair in town. It's absolute hoopla. When I was a little girl I loved it; the carnival rides, the cotton candy, the rigged games that you can't win at, but waste your money at anyways. As I've gotten older I've lost most appreciation for the fair. Now I see it more as a weirdo attractor and peace disturber. Most of this spite is because of it's proximity to my house (about a quarter mile). I usually avoid the fair at all costs, but then I realized that you, the readers, might like a little taste of small town charm, so I decided to take a few pictures throughout the weekend, these first ones are from the parade that comes before the fair (told you it was a big hoopla!)

Kilts! And bagpipes are the most beautiful of all instruments. NOT. Especially when they were practicing for an hour in front of your house!

He kind of reminds me of Papa Smurf...

Old people in old cars...

Anna, smiling, in front of a fire truck...
More kilts...
A leather clad marching band...
People watching the parade at  a pot-luck picnic...
My favorite picture of the day, a fully bearded saxaphone player...
Anna walking in the middle of our blocked off road...

Me, not looking like a hot mess (at all) ...
Part two coming soon...

  1. I live in a small town, too. It gets old fast. :/

You are really pretty, by the way! Not sure if I told you that recently!!

  2. That fair looks pretty fun, in a quirky sort of way, but I totally understand not really enjoying it. Every columbus day, my extremely italian neighborhood goes all crazy and has a big parade. I'm not so into that sort of thing, so I'm just happy when all the craziness ends!

  3. It's interesting to see the traditions of other small towns. I've lived in a small town on the Long Island Sound for more than half my life and we have so many silly festivals and attractions which people from all over the Island attend. I understand the resentment entirely, as I hate having to deal with traffic and reckless pedestrians as I try to turn left out of my block but c'est la vie. Anyway, that's awesome that you go to Fairfield! What year are you? I go to Quinnipiac University. I'm travelling into the city I think Thursday or Friday morning with another blogger from Connecticut, so let me know if you're interested in joining us! And I'll let you know the details of which day it is as soon as I figure them out myself! If not, I definitely think we should do a Connecticut bloggers meet up! That would be awesome.

  4. I grew up in a small town and the annual town fair was the biggest deal of the year! It's pretty endearing and kitschy. Also, loving the Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros reference in the post title.
